  • Domestic Violence Awareness Month | DOVE

Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) started as a "Day of Unity" in 1981 to connect advocates and survivors across the country working to end domestic and intimate partner violence. Eventually recognition started building on local, state, and nationwide levels. In October 1987, the first DVAM was celebrated and is now an important month for all service organizations across the country. DOVE is so excited to connect with our community in raising awareness throughout the month. We have so much planned and there are so many ways to get involved! And a big shout out to our Staff, Event Committee, and Board of Directors who contributed greatly to the overall success of Let's Dance. It was an absolute pleasure getting together with long-time supporters and meeting so many new members of our community. • Emergency Shelter | DOVE

Emergency Shelter DOVE provides emergency shelter for survivors fleeing domestic violence. Our gender inclusive shelter provides refuge for both single individuals and families. While in DOVE’s shelter, program participants are supported to ground themselves after crisis or a period of homelessness. DOVE Advocates use trauma informed practices to help survivors look inward as they begin to discover who they will become in the aftermath of abuse. DOVE Advocates also assist program participants to seek transitional and/or permanent housing, to connect children with school and education, and to begin planning for life beyond the shelter. Upon moving out, our program participants are able to continue to work with the staff as they transition towards self-sustainability.
